( It starts off with the feeling that they're being watched and maybe they aren't going to humor him right away. But that feeling never really goes away until they turn around to see Mutsu watching with a big, dumb grin on his face for no reason. And he isn't going to offer any sort of explanation. )
2. (#`^´)
( For one reason or another, Mutsu has decided to ignore them completely. If they call his name, he doesn't appear to respond and if they get up in his space, he turns away with his arms crossed and mumbles something but what isn't exactly easy to tell. Regardless, he sure is making a point of looking like he really doesn't want to be bothered right now... It's like he's sulking about something? But he's not telling. )
3. ヽ(´ー`)ノ
( The air is thick and humid, the sound of rain beating against the citadel, and the wind chime outside clangs loudly in a strong wind. Somewhere beyond the garden, thunder rolls and if anyone had any plans of going outside, those sure aren't happening now. There isn't much anyone can do right now except to stay inside and take it easy. Some of the spirits have decided it's ideal weather to nap during while others play cards or catch up on reports or whatever else they can find to do inside.
Mutsu himself is pretty bored being stuck inside the citadel. It wouldn't be a problem if this was just for a day or two but it's been pouring like this all week and it doesn't appear to be letting up. He might be found sighing loudly as he watches the rain fall outside on the rocks and statues outside... or he might find you while stalking around the citadel for something to do. )
[Kashuu is pretty good at playing this game! As in, he's pretty good at ignoring people when they ignore him and pretending his ass off in an attempt to make it seem like he's totally cool with it when really it's eating him up inside. He's gotta know... What did he do? He had to have done something wrong to get this kind of reaction, because Mutsu can be petulant but it's not like it's for no reason. Usually.
So somewhere between "just accept that this is a thing" and "lose my temper immediately", Kashuu definitely does get all up in his space. That's another thing he's good at! Hair-trigger confrontation! What useful skills he has.]
So are you gonna actually say something, or am I gonna have to beat the words outta you?
( It's like a long game they play with Mutsu trying to find out how long it takes to get on Kashuu's nerves. Actually, this is exactly what it is, to be honest, and he feels a little smug that he appears to finally be winning but he can't show it just yet. )
What? Got nothin` to say. You?
( And he huffs. He huffs and just lays down on the floor with his back turned towards Kashuu. )
Yeah, I got something to say. You're pissing me off!
[He's tempted, in a fit of "I'm 500 but also actually 5", to just straight-up kick Mutsu square in the back... But by some holy hand of aid, he manages to refrain for the time being. No promises for the future, though.
For now, he just steps around Mutsu so he can look down at his face again instead of his back, setting his hands on his hips.]
[At first he thought it was just baseless paranoia. Some sort of mixed signal or a crossed wire somewhere that was making him think he was being watched. He ignored it like he ignored most uncomfortable Feelings because Feelings were stupid and detrimental to battle. But then the sensation wouldn't go away and Doudanuki realized that he couldn't just A) ignore this particular problem until it went away or B) shove his sword through the problem's face because the problem turned out to be Mutsunokami staring at him with a big doofy smile on his face. And since Doudanuki was a master of fact and grace he decided to do the intelligent thing as any smart savvy sword would do.
He turned around abruptly and stalked over to Mutsu to get up in his grill because I lied and he has no chill. ]
What? You've been staring at me all day. What d'you want?
( It's okay, Donut. Mutsu's been in a display case for a good few years so he knows how to wait things out now. He's waiting and waiting for some sort of reaction from him and when he finally gets it, that silly grin of his just gets bigger. Mutsu is clearly very pleased with himself, don't you see? It probably translates to Doudanuki as Mutsu's face becoming particularly more punchable with each second but that's a risk Mutsu is willing to take. )
Nothin`~ ( That's it. Nothing. ) Just watchin` ya, that's all.
Why? Ya feeling guilty about something?
( Is that why he can't look??? He isn't hurting anyone by looking, you know. )
[No, it's not okay, this is horrible and Mutsu is horrible. Doudanuki's expression sours even further when asked if he's feeling guilty about something. He has nothing to feel guilty about, but being asked that always makes him wonder. What if he did something wrong without even realizing it? He does tend to terrify the tantou when he actually means to be nice to them, so he could be guilty of something without even knowing it.
But the fleeting worry is gone soon enough, replaced with an ever growing need to wipe Mutsu's smug face across the ground.]
I ain't an art piece, so stop staring.
[It's not like he's even doing anything particularly interesting??? Before getting all up in Mutsu's grill, he'd only been wandering the halls of citadel aimlessly? How is that interesting????]
You got somethin' you wanna say to me or what? If not, go bug someone else.
Ya think I'm an artsy guy? ( He may have been in a museum for years but he isn't the Mona Lisa. ) I'm a sword just like you.
( But he's definitely having fun right now, even if it is just a teasing conversation with a war sword because his name is Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki and he lives life on the edge. )
Ya got somethin` better to be doing? If not, I can keep ya company.
[Souza is usually not one to have difficulty finding things to do indoors, no matter how much staying indoors for an extended period of time tended to bother him. At least with the rain coming down in persistent sheets he had an easier time napping. Nothing could burn in this rain, after all.
But even he exhausted his options a couple days ago, and with Kousetsu off at 7-2 looking for Sadamune and Sayo whisked off with the other Tantou to play...
He was bored. And, in wandering the citadel for something to do, he comes across... an obviously bored Mutsu, sighing at the outdoors like his palpable boredom would make the rain let up.]
I... hope I'm not interrupting anything... am I?
[Because he'll just be settling right in next to you there, Mutsu.]
( It's boring. It's so boring. And honestly, the weather is a little depressing, even. When Souza settles next to him, Mutsu shifts a bit to both turn his attention towards him and to give them some comfortable space between them. )
Nah, just watching the rain. ( Watching the little pond outside flood into the rest of the garden and puddles turning into mini ponds themselves, ) ... Ya think the fields're gonna be okay?
( Everyone worked hard on planting the summer crops so it would really be a shame if everything got washed away. )
[He tries not to think of how depressing the weather is, or else his thoughts might turn to the dounpour at Okehazama, or else the only pleasant weather he'll have left is snow, and... that's not something that can be counted on for most of the year. So the rain might be stifling and oppressive and the source of endless boredom, but it isn't depressing.
It's not allowed to be.]
Watching... won't make it go away any faster... [A gentle tease, because of course it won't, but of course there would always be someone sitting and watching it anyway, waiting for the first peek of sunshine through the clouds.] Ah- I... think they should be fine... right?
[It would be a shame if the crops washed away, but if they did, then everyone would just have to pull together, replant, and hope, because what else could they do?]
( Souza is right. He knows he's right. Watching the rain isn't going to magically make it stop but he's so bored, what else is there to really do. He's quiet for a second more (really, he's been quiet in general which is a little strange for him) and then he rolls over onto his back, tilting his head up to look at Souza. )
Wanna check?
( Go out in the rain and check the fields? Because this is clearly a good idea. Look, Souza, how can you say no to this face? He's a puppy sword, come on. )
[Yamanbagiri blinks, before he raise a brow at him.]
... I finished hanging up the laundry already. [Which Mutsu should have notice by now? The basket's empty and all the sheets are up, fluttering from the light wind.] Are you sure it's nothing? Have you been watching me for a while?
( Well, the least he can do is come over and carry the basket or something? As for how long he's been watching? Mutsu doesn't really respond beyond shifting his feet some and humming a bit to himself. Yeah, maybe he's been watching for a little while. )
( It's a warm spring day-- the warmest they've had so far and it only appears that it'll keep getting warmer. In the open room, Mutsu lays on the floor, stretched out on his side and enjoying the breeze that comes in through the open screen door. Looking outside, he looks up at the branches of the cherry trees, spotted with partially open buds. He thinks how nice it is and turns over on his stomach, resting his chin on his hands and looking at the back of the man in front him. He's so serious, Mutsu thinks, but that isn't a bad thing. It's something he admires, really, the way Saitou can focus on a task and work so hard on something as boring as paperwork.
He's quiet for a moment, content with just watching in silence before he finally breaks it, )
The cherry blossoms'll be in full bloom soon. ( He closes his eyes and hums, ) We should go see them.
[ Someone has to do the paperwork! He's asked himself before if he really enjoys it, and the answer is: sometimes. It can be fairly mindless, meaning he can be signing or reporting something and think about other things. Other time it's a necessity. He's definitely focusing today, but it's a little hard. A little. Because the weather is perfect and it's only getting better.
When Mutsu brings up the cherry blossoms, he looks up and glances from screen door to sword, a faint smile on his face. ]
We should. [ It'd be a nice break from daily things. ] I have no plans tomorrow... [ It's been a slow week. ]
( Perhaps its a good thing that the cherry blossoms haven't reached full bloom yet. With how busy Saitou is and how fleeting the blossoms are, they might miss them. It'll be nice to just get out. When Saitou agrees to going out, he looks up. He's trying to not be too obvious but he's pleased-- he really, really is. And he grins a bit to himself and pushes himself up with his hands. There's something like a small groan (he was comfortable where he was!) and he scoots over to be closer.
Sitting next to him, legs crossed, holding onto his ankles, and leaning over to see what he's working on (or is it just an excuse to be closer?) )
Filing reports. One would think there's a faster way of doing this, but I suppose paperwork will remain as long as humans remain. [ The stack of finished reports is larger than the stack of unfinished ones.
He glances at Mutsu out of the corner of his eye, nearly smiling. It's hard to not smile. Is he proud of this sword? Why yes he is.
And because he has one hand free, he can reach out and fluff Mutsu on the head, because he can't help it. It makes Mutsu happy and it makes him happy. ] I'm nearly done.
