(When Ookurikara returns from his assignment, none of his closest friends are home to greet him. It's a busy time at the citadel as the government dishes out more assignments before the year ends. It isn't until a little while later that the next Date sword returns from his expedition.)

(Of course, he has to head off to get checked up after the assignment. It was an easy enough task and there's nothing he needs to do besides take it easy and give himself a break along with the rest of the squad. He'll retire after he delivers his report to the saniwa.
And that's why, a little later in the day, Tsurumaru finally returns to their room. He lets out a loud sigh and stretches,)
[After a very particular stressful mission, Ookurikara went to the Date swords' shared room after his check-up. While he's physically fine, it's his mental and emotional state they can't help with. What happened during his mission linger in his mind, far too long as he sits in their room.
The other Date swords weren't there, but that's okay. He's absolutely fine. He knows this is all temporary.
Ookurikara senses Tsurumaru's arrival, causing him to glance over for a moment. And feel a tense emotion in his chest. Tch, he turn his gaze away quickly.]
(He takes off his robe, setting it down on a wardrobe nearby and comes over. Right now, it isn't easy to tell what's wrong with Ookurikara. It's natural for him to be a little aloof so Tsuru settles down near him and smiles,)
I brought back a souvenir.
(And he holds out a small box of candied fruit leather-- signature ume from Wakayama. A perfect blend of salty and sweet. )
We decided these were the best.
(We being the entire squad he was just with. Of course, they took the time to have some fun on an easy mission.)
(He looks up as Kara gets up. It's not unusual for him to save his gifts for later when no one is around to watch but it's unlike him to not even want to stick around. For all of the trouble Tsuru gives him, Kara has always put up with him.
He reaches up and grabs the edge of his clothes to get him to stay,)
What about you, Kara-bou? Did you bring anything while you were out?
(Of course not. It was a proper mission and time is much more limited on those but it's an invitation to talk about the last mission all the same.)
