Pick a character, hit me up, toss out a scenario, or use one of the threads below. Master muse list can be seen here but the characters below are the ones I'm feeling the most right now.
It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. If you're not getting any sleep, then why should they?
o p t i o n s
01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet. 02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops. 03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it. 04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them... 05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort. 06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help? 07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on. 08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them. 09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you. 10 • WILDCARD. Choose one of the options above, or make up your own scenario.
[On occasions, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro would find himself unable to sleep. It's a familiar scenario for him by now. Ever since that one moment, the idea of sleep would sometimes elude him. If he ever do sleep, he's somehow at ease or became too exhausted for his mind to fight against.
Alas, tonight, his mind is wild awake and his hands need to do something. It's late at night, and the lamp in his room is dimly lit. Anyone outside would notice, but not disturbingly so. Fortunately, he sleeps alone in this room tonight. His insomnia and urge to create wouldn't disturb his usual roommates.
Right beside his futon, he takes out various arts and crafts materials from a box. A simple box carrying materials for making artwork, should he ever feel like it. After a long stare, he pick something up and starts to... create. To lose himself in the flow of creation.]
(After returning from their mission, Hizen had retreated. It was his second time experiencing an abandoned world and he wasn't sure about how to feel about being chosen without anything being explained to him.
Actually, he wasn't really sure what to make of this citadel at all. His evaluation had been straightforward enough. He'd judged that the citadel and saniwa were competent enough to earn a passing mark. The government had decided continued assessment would be good and he hadn't thought anything about it.
And then he'd started to learn about some of the mysteries here. Or rather, the mystery. Who was the first sword here? Why wouldn't anyone tell him? It must have happened early in this citadel's run if so few swords seemed to remember.
But after coming back from that recent mission, he didn't really want to think about much. Two abandoned worlds so close to each other was enough for him. All of them had needed their time and space. Ookanehira went to bother Uguisumaru. Nansen retreated to be with the Ichimonji. Izuminokami was quickly swept up by the other Shinsengumi swords and even Mutsunokami had gone to check on him for a moment before turning his attention to Hizen who ditched the uchigatana to go nap while Nankaitarou did some research.
He doesn't know what happened to Yamanbagiri. He couldn't get a read on that guy. He can't imagine Chougi looking out for him. Who else was there...? Horikawa and Yamabushi? One of the Samonji swords...? The blue one, right? The tall one...?
it's the middle of the night when Hizen leaves the other Tosans to sleep. He slips away quietly without waking any of them and he makes his way to the kitchen when here's something in a nearby room. Whose room was that? Right, it was that guy's room... he slept alone these days. Strange. The door is cracked open just slightly... and he tiptoes over to peek inside and see what the moody bastard is doing.)
[Through the gap, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro's back is facing the door. Hizen may spot the various materials on the floor near him. Materials commonly used for creating thing. He only have enough for small projects, but maybe he can go out to the merchant for something? Make a request of the saniwa?
He's also aware of someone watching him. Being one of the senior swords, his strength and skills are appropriately fine tuned. Physically anyway... emotionally and mentally? It's another story.
He didn't say anything, letting the silence hang in the air. Until his fingers are done tying the ropes into knots.]
(Of course, his senses would be strong. He should have done a better job at concealing himself, to be honest. He doesn't open the door right away and instead, speaks from the other side, keeping his voice low and quiet to not wake up any of the others,)
[There goes his chance at explaining it. He thinks for a moment, wondering how to answer this.]
I just feel like making something.
[No particular plan, no particular vision... at least as he's consciously aware off. The purple rope get weaved in with practiced, careful touch. The project he's making is taking shape.]
Do you ever feel like making something, sometimes?
[The middle of winter is a quieter time for Mondstadt. It is too cold to be a criminal. Caravans and shipments of supplies are less hassled, leading to a lull in work for the knights who focus on civic duties instead. The heavy snow drifts, some that ice over as the night wears on, make it difficult to want to be outdoors at all.
For cryo magic users, they are brimming with magic. It is the season they are the strongest, and the overabundance of energy is hard to burn off when there's no work to be had that keeps them busy. For the past few years, Kaeya has found a way. Since Venti started showing up, Kaeya has noticed little things that don't make sense.
Over time, suspicion began to brew, gaining more and more traction that only added to a hidden report in his flat. It came to a head at the recent Diluc, and Jean both gave way to Venti without question. He'd caught a look with the traveler, who looked bashfully away for reasons he couldn't figure out at the time. Annoying Diluc about it got him nothing. Subtly asking Jean got him to put on road clearing duty with the excuse that he had too much energy and the city could use his hands full time for a few days.
It didn't help the restlessness that wasn't letting him sleep at night. And so he is, wandering the night with a lantern on his belt out on unofficial patrol. He pauses as he catches music on the breeze and makes his way over to the snowdrifts in front of Angel's share. He can picture where the tables would be.] Between you and me, I don't think Angel's Share is going to open tomorrow until late evening.
(Winter is cold and winter is quiet. The wind bites a little more and the snow dampens all sound and there are certainly plenty who dislike the season but Venti doesn't mind.
It's winter when people gather close together for warmth, their cheeks rosy and bright from the wind. A long time ago, people would huddle around the same fire and share hearty stews with one another. They would pass around cups of warm mulled wine and with their stomachs warm and their hearts full, they would sing to pass the nights.
Those nights are now more reserved for adventurers and travelers out in the wild. These days, the people of Mondstadt are warm in their homes and he can't complain. The taverns and bars are slower these days. They are always more active at night and these nights, it's harder and harder to get out. All the more reason to show his support and pay a visit, right?
Ah, but it's then that he catches a familiar face. He isn't surprised to see the Favonius knight. Those who have been blessed with Cryo are always more active in this season. With a cold wind and some snowflakes in the air, he arranges it just so he can be caught outside the Angel's Share.)
Oho? (He lets out a small laugh,) Then we should make the most of tonight!
(He raises his hands to his mouth, blowing warm air into them,)
Well, we can’t have you freezing to death out here. Who would sing wondrous tales? [He slaps a hand to the front of Angel’s share and threads of pale blue light weave over the wood and down into the snow.
The snow parts and moves as he takes a moment to control it. It ripples like sand dunes in the wind until the tables are exposed and the covered up brazier waits. Kaeya sags against the wall.] A shame Master Diluc isn’t on shift.
[He runs his hands over the underside and finds a very obvious compartment. He pulls it open and takes out a flint and tinder.] Can you get the cover off the top? I have to say, most people wouldn’t be out in this weather.
Even our busy Acting Grand Master is insisting guard duty shifts are shorter. [They are the same amount of shifts but people rotate a hell of a lot sooner and more often.]
[sleep hasn't been a companion of nehan's for a long while. it doesn't come easily, and when it does, it never stays for long. he's long learned to stop chasing it and simply do something better with his time.
like work.
like fussing over his plants, trimming them and harvesting what he needs, and then firing up his makeshift lab in order to get some experiments done.]
(It's late at night, the moon is light, the stars are bright, and everything is so completely, utterly, and totally at peace. It would be the perfect night to dream but every moment he sleeps is another moment doing nothing as far as Tsurumaru is concerned.
So he takes to the night. A dark black-blue haori hangs over his shoulders tonight and he finds himself drawn to the flowers under the moon's starry rays. This is how he stumbles onto Nehan in his lab when he sees that he isn't the only one up tonight.
He doesn't announce his presence with a hello or a surprise. Instead, he casually calls out,)
Have you heard of flowers that only bloom under the moon's cold light?
My hometown was full of such things. [which, of course, means yes.]
I would like to grow some of my own, but the days are too long here, and the sun is always too bright.
[and he really can't go back to his childhood home, when it's gone, and wholly removed from the rest of civilization. nehan got out a long time ago for a reason.]
The sunlight is good enough for these. [for most plants, indeed.
nehan reaches out and rubs a petal between his forefinger and thumb. as a testament to how delicately he handles his plants, the velvety petal doesn't even have an imprint of his finger, or a bruise. he's more conscious of them than he is with other people.
then again, plants are good, and each one has many uses. people are bastards, and their one use is to give him money.]
It will also be good to dry them when plucked, for proper medicine.
[first, nehan points towards a rose. no one expects roses to be medicinal, but nehan tends to prove them wrong.]
Oils, pastes and salves made from roses are good for the skin, mostly in vanity products. But they soothe minor scratches, acne and injuries on the face better than some other salves because the product is gentle on delicate skin.
And some enjoy the smell of it more than other medicines.
Comment with your character, preferences, preferred role, and any information you'd like to include.
Your character has either been injured/sick and had to be taken in (possibly against their will) or has been the one to help somebody like the former. Through the mending process, the two characters in a thread have fallen in love - or at least grown closer and more affectionate.
more commonly known as "hanahaki disease," those afflicted with this disease are fated to cough up flowers as long as their love remains unrequited. this is often fatal, with flowers completely consuming their respiratory system. there are two ways to cure it: either have your feelings returned, or have it forcibly removed from your body through surgery, though the latter will force you to lose all memory of the person you love.
02. bouaishoukougun
forgotten love syndrome
from an online novel of the same name, a syndrome caused by unrequited love that causes a person to begin to forget the person they love. eventually, they forget them completely, and the only way to retrieve those memories is via that person's death.
03. hoshinamidabyou
star tear disease
similar to hanahaki disease. people suffering from unrequited feelings will cry "stars"; they're similar to glass and are incredibly painful, and eventually the person afflicted with this disease will go blind. the sound they make when you cry can be pretty much anything.
04. shinshoubyou
hurting heart sickness
an affliction where emotional or mental scars physically appear on the body. depending on the type of trauma, the scars will look different. it can be healed by removing the trauma, but this is only temporary: the symptoms can always return.
05. tenshibyou
angel disease
a disease where an afflicted person grows wings. as the wings become more angelic/divine, however, the person attached to them grows weaker; eventually, they die.
06. hanasaki/kousekibyou
flower blossom/crystalization disease
a disease where flowers bloom out of someone's body. this can be on their body proper or from various orifices, such as their eyes, ears, and mouth. alternatively, a disease where the afflicted person grows crystals all over their body, until they're completely consumed.
POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE: ① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you. ② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families. ③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down. ④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable. ⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war. ⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection. ⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS: ① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse. ② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates. ③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending). ④ Wedding day → The big day! ⑤ Reception → The big party! ⑥ Wedding night → Every meme needs a smut prompt, right? ⑦ Honeymoon → Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there
Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.
It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.
You're a pop star, or a royal, or maybe even the last of your kind who will bring about the Earth's redemption. Whatever the case may be, you're in a position that may be a bit dicey if you attract the wrong kind of attention.
And you're a bodyguard, a soldier, a knight - a protector. Somehow, you've been roped into protecting this person. You'll be rewarded, of course. The work may be cut out for you, but just do your job, keep your head down, and it'll go smooth.
What else needs to be said? Release your inner warrior and partake in some epic (or hilariously bad) battles! Do you use a sword? Are you a martial arts master? Are you a wizard? Can you even fight?
It doesn't matter if you're just having a friendly spar or deciding the fate of the universe. You're suddenly filled with the urge to fight the next person you meet. Cut loose and show off your skills!
