( It's a pretty normal day at the citadel until news breaks out that the saniwa has managed to summon a new spirit. Depending on who you've heard the news from, you may or may not have the name. Or maybe you've heard that the newcomer is supposed to be a beautiful sword dressed in white. Or that he's an imperial sword or some other vague but specific piece of information. Either way, it should be easy to find a new face here, right?
Just follow the sounds of one (1) distressed sounding Konnosuke and you'll see the newest addition to your rag tag sword army. He's picked up Konnosuke and has him on his back in front of him, rubbing at his belly. Konnosuke squirms to get free. )
A little fox! You remind me of someone. ( Konnosuke squirms in his hands, trying to get free. ("Tsurumaru-san, please, let me go! I'm a pipe fox spirit, not a common fox!" The new spirit laughs,). ) And you really talk! What a surprise!
( And he looks up to see you, who's arrived to crash his fun, )
Yo~ ( He'd salute in greeting but his hands are a little full, ) Are you surprised to see someone like me?
( SET KONNOSUKE FREE )
Gold
( Some time has passed since Tsurumaru Kuninaga arrived at the citadel and most people are used to his character by now. It's a cool fall day and you're out in the garden for whatever reason. Most of the trees are losing their leaves and can be found in collected piles here and there. There's one particularly large pile and when you walk past it... )
Waah!
( Tsurumaru jumps up, throwing the leaves in the air and at you. Standing straight, hands on his hips and still covered in ginkgo leaves, )
Ahahaha! Are you surprised?
( He's so proud. )
Red
( Returning from a mission, Tsurumaru laughs casually as the Konnosukes scurry towards the squad. The last mission had some unexpected turns and what was supposed to be an easy scouting mission turned into an unexpected battle. Even if they were able to handle themselves, they'd still come back with injuries.
As they run their scan on the returning touken danshi, Tsurumaru holds out his arms, revealing sleeves speckled with red. )
What do you think?
( He shows them off to someone nearby-- either a squad mate or a concerned passerby or some other sword that was sent to check on them. And he gives a little turn to show the rest of him, revealing more blood on the back and hood. Konnosuke chides him to stay still because he's disrupting the scan. )
It's too bad.
( The battle had been too short and easy. It wasn't enough to achieve his #aesthetic. )
A little more and I would really look like a crane.
( "Stay still!" Konnosuke snaps again. )

Mikazuki smiles and plucks a leaf from the branch, coming closer to tuck it in Tsurumaru's hair above his ear. ]
Beautiful.
[But then, he gives an exaggerated shiver.]
Aaaah... Maybe we should have some warm sake instead of tea. That would be so lovely to drink under the maple trees...
no subject
...
( He can tell the shiver is played up but he had mentioned being cold earlier. With a shrug, he takes off his coat and wraps it around Mikazuki's shoulders. )
All right, all right! ( They'll have something to drink. ) We'll get you some tea or sake before you freeze.
no subject
Excellent, excellent! A perfect way to finish the day, hahahaha!
[How did it go from you trying to surprise him to you having to take care of him somehow, Tsurumaru? It's anyone's guess but it sure looks like that now.]
Maybe Shokudaikiri has a snack or two we could spirit away...
[Please feed him as well.]
no subject
I'll see what Mitsu-bou has, okay.
( This sure did turn into Tsurumaru taking care of Mikazuki. He'll lead the way back to the citadel. It's a little chilly without his cloak but that's fine. He's always a little cold anyway. He'll even take him right to his favorite room to have tea in, the one with the best view of the garden. Because of course he'd know exactly which one that is. )
no subject
How nice, how nice.
[He will follow to the room and settle down on a cushion, but keep Tsurumaru's cloak draped around his shoulders - it's nice and soft and warm.]
Now, bring something sweet if it's tea, or salty if it's sake, will you? Those go best together.
no subject
The answer is probably yes and honestly, it doesn't change the fact that Tsurumaru goes along with it.
He mumbles a "right, right" because he doesn't need to be told twice. He's done this enough times to know what Mikazuki wants. And all it takes is for the water to boil for Tsurumaru to come back with a tray of tea snacks. It's Mitsutada so of course there's some fancy snack thrown in there... But he's also grabbed some dango too because there's never a shortage of dango in the citadel.
And for all of his grumbling and mumbling about being sent off to collect tea and snacks for Mikazuki, he's still careful when he sets down the tray on the table. There's barely any clatter and as he moves things around and sets their plates and cups down for the two of them, there's definitely something graceful and practiced to each movement.
Setting down their fancy western dessert, he explains, )
It's called mont blanc. He said it's chestnut and cream.
( And he watches Mikazuki to see what he thinks. Did he do good? )

But if you asked Mikazuki he would say he loves those little moments he can sometimes share with the crane sword. Tsurumaru might be younger than him and the Sanjou swords, but not that much younger, and while they are not very closely related, they still share the fact that their smiths were of the same school. In some ways, all the Sanjou sword behave as if Tsurumaru were a turbulent and cute little cousin.
But these moments, where Tsurumaru brings him tea, and pours, and gives him some sweets... those are precious indeed, and he smiles as Tsurumaru describes the dessert.]
That sounds delicious. Thank you.
[You did very good, Tsuru. he's going to first take a sip of his tea... and sigh happily like the old man he is. So good.]
no subject
Right now, he's excited to try this new dessert Mitsutada has worked so hard to make. It's sweet. Deliciously sweet and he'll have to give his compliments to the chef later.)
Everything tastes better after a hard day of work, don't you think?
(A very, very hard day for the both of them.)
no subject
[What are you saying, Tsurumaru, he worked super hard. He was carrying leaves!
He finally goes to taste the dessert, and it is just as good as Tsururmaru made it sounds.]
And everything tastes better in good company.
no subject
It isn't obvious in the sense he doesn't make a big show of it or anything but his good mood is definitely a sign that he's pleased right now. )
Oh?
( Is he good company? Well, he'll have to switch things up. He has a reputation as a menace, after all. But for now, they can make pleasant conversation like the old men they are, )
Are you all warmed up yet? You know, it isn't even winter yet. How are you going to last?
( How did he even get through the last winter? )
no subject
[Here let him give another shiver for good measure.]
Of course, if we have warm tea and good food, it will probably be fine.
[And of course you are good company, Tsuru. He won't doxx you, though, your secret is fine with him.]
no subject
( He'd rather see MIkazuki outside instead of shut away from the world. He knows Mikazuki would prefer that too. )
There's plenty of good tea right now so help yourself.
( Because
there is definitely a fake spider at the very bottom of that cup. )
no subject
[He has spent enough time shut in away from others because of that museum life, he would not enjoy having to go through it again.
For a while, he just keeps chatting and eating and drinking his tea, until he notices something in his cup.]
Oya, oya, what is this? .... Is it dead? Oh no, the poor thing...
no subject
That's it? That's the reaction he gets? Oh, come one, he tried that with Kasen the other day and it was a huge hit.)
Again. (Once again, Mikazuki is just as chill as a cucumber... Leaning back from where he's sitting, hands behind him and tossing his head back to let out a frustrated sigh,) That's it?
no subject
I beg your pardon?
[Did he do something wrong... oh. Was this another prank?]
Ah, sorry, sorry! I was just concerned because I thought it had drowned, and what a way that would be to go, hahahahaha!
no subject
Sympathizing with a spider in your tea cup....
( How did this turn into him being surprised instead? Really? Who feels sorry for a spider in their tea!!! )
no subject
All life is precious, Tsurumaru Kuninaga. To us who are blades, it does not matter whether those lives are human or not when we are used to cut them short. But to those cut down, whether they are human or not, it is their life and it matters.
[He will fish the fake dead spider out delicately and put it down on the table.]
How many people have you frightened with this already?
no subject
Even if it's true, he doesn't want to think about those things right now. He's just trying to have a good time! If they start discussing philosophy, this conversation will surely take a different turn and he's been having a good and easy day. He waves a hand in the air, dismissing Mikazuki as right (as he usually is), )
It's a toy.
( It isn't even real so don't get all deep and thoughtful about it, old man. At least the next question is one he's more eager to answer. Smiling, clearly proud of himself, chin held high and chest out, )
How many indeed! ( There was Kashuu and Hasebe, Kasen and even Houchou because of course he was going to have some fun with the tantou too. ) I suppose some were more mad than frightened in the end.
( Sitting up, leaning across the table some like he's about to share something absolutely brilliant with Mikazuki, an idle hand reaching to tap (pet?) his spider, )
I wonder... Would Hizamaru be surprised?
no subject
But also laugh good-naturedly as you admit to having played this trick on a few others.]
You should try it to find out, hahahahaha!
[Is he enabling you and your tricky ways? Why, yes, yes, he is, don't mind if he does. Maybe you have yet to manage to surprise him, but he certainly enjoys the ruckus whenever you spook someone else.]
no subject
Oh, but what if... he can take it an extra level? He has a sly sort of look, one more befitting of a trickster than a crane, )
Maybe you can help!
no subject
[One should never trust a crane, no matter what, but Mikazuki isn't particularly known for doing what people expect of him, so...]
What could an old man like me do? The young ones should have their fun, hahahahaha!
[Tell him more, Tsuru.]
no subject
Wouldn't you like to get to know Hizamaru better? (They have to set it up!!!) Over tea~?
no subject
[So if you can't surprise him, you'll make him your partner in crime.]
I don't know that Hizamaruwould accept an invitation from me that easily, though. He seems a little... wary, around me.
no subject
( Everyone gives in eventually. He believes in you, Mikazuki. )
no subject
[He is seriously considering this, can you tell.]
Maybe I should just invite Higekiri, then Hizamaru will come along.
[After all everyone knows Higekiri and Mikazuki get along. Much better than you would expect, really.]
He is such a good little brother.
